Happy St. Patrick's Day!

Tuesday, March 16, 2010

May love and laughter light your days,
and warm your heart and home.
May good and faithful friends be yours,
wherever you may roam.
May peace and plenty bless your world
with joy that long endures.
May all life's passing seasons
bring the best to you and yours!

You use your microwave as a place to hide food because your dog can reach the top of the refrigerator.

When you wake in the morning and open your eyes, you are staring nose to nose with your dog even though you are laying atop of your queen size bed.

You go for a walk in the neighborhood and everyone stops to meet your dog and ignores your kids.

You go to vacuum your car and most of the fur is up there on the ceiling.

You purchase a large screen TV and you still can't see the program when he stands in front of the television.

Your dog can hide an entire tennis ball (among other things) fully inside his lips and give you that innocent look that says, "What? I'm not eating anything!"

You have given up on water dishes because your dog prefers to use the sink.

You avoid the dogs on your way out the door, so they won't smear your makeup.

You tell your dog to sit and he backs up until his rear hits the sofa.

Your dog can swallow an entire stick of butter in one gulp.

You've learned to force a smile when someone says, "You should just put a saddle on that thing and ride it."

The pizza guys phones you from the car and asks you to come out and get the pizza.

Hey there dog lovers! Be sure to enter my DENTASTIX Prize Pack Giveaway before you go! I'll be choosing 5 winners this Friday. Enter to win great treats for your four-legged friend!

Kids Art and Youth Art Month

March is Youth Art Month and I have been wanting to share some of the drawings my kids have created lately. I just hadn't gotten around to scanning them until today.

I've been toying with the idea of starting a meme called Inspire Me Monday or something of the sort...but, that would require creating a button for the meme...and getting the word out, and planning more posts, and... geez, why isn't there more time in the day?!

Please do let me know if you'd be interested in participating in such a meme to share things of beauty that inspire you and feed your soul. Could be kids art, could be photos you've taken, anything you've created, a song you love, a poem, etc. Just a way to celebrate the beauty around us and find a little light in these otherwise dreary times. I'll try to get my act together and organize a post for next Monday.

Anyway..on with the show :)
The first drawing is a self-portrait that my daughter created. She is 4. She actually drew pictures of everyone in the family. I love them all and am thinking of making them into charms for a charm bracelet...eh hem....a great Mother's Day gift, don't you think?

The next one is a picture my son drew of a dragon. He is 7. He was playing with his Lego Castle set and then decided to draw this.
I just love these because they are things they simply felt inspired to create. I didn't sit them down for a lesson, or prompt them. They're just freehand doodles and the simplicity and imagination of them touch my heart.

Here is a link to some art lesson plans compliments of Crayola (scroll toward the bottom of the page).
Incredible Art has lessons by grade level. Cool!
Arty Factory has some really cool lessons online for more advanced artists and upper Elementary through teens. Find more free art tutorials at Art Graphica, also for more advanced kids...or even mom.

If you have a post on art that you'd like to share, please leave a link in the comments! I'd love to see it.
Thanks!

Quotable Sunday

Sunday, March 14, 2010

Greetings friends, and welcome to this week's Quotable Sunday...the topic? Springtime! The sun is out and it feels like Spring here. I'm loving it! I think we'll spend the day wandering around Colonial Williamsburg. What are your plans for the day?

In the spring, at the end of the day, you should smell like dirt. ~Margaret Atwood

Springtime is the land awakening. The March winds are the morning yawn. ~Quoted by Lewis Grizzard in Kathy Sue Loudermilk, I Love You

Spring makes its own statement, so loud and clear that the gardener seems to be only one of the instruments, not the composer. ~Geoffrey B. Charlesworth

It was one of those March days when the sun shines hot and the wind blows cold: when it is summer in the light, and winter in the shade. ~Charles Dickens

Everything is blooming most recklessly; if it were voices instead of colors, there would be an unbelievable shrieking into the heart of the night. ~Rainer Maria Rilke, Letters of Rainer Maria Rilke

It's spring fever. That is what the name of it is. And when you've got it, you want - oh, you don't quite know what it is you do want, but it just fairly makes your heart ache, you want it so! ~Mark Twain

Hoe while it is spring, and enjoy the best anticipations. It is not much matter if things do not turn out well. ~Charles Dudley Warner

Awake, thou wintry earth -
Fling off thy sadness!
Fair vernal flowers, laugh forth
Your ancient gladness!
~Thomas Blackburn, "An Easter Hymn"

I love spring anywhere, but if I could choose I would always greet it in a garden. ~Ruth Stout

Spring shows what God can do with a drab and dirty world. ~Virgil A. Kraft

Thanks for stopping by :) Enjoy your day! Did you remember to spring forward?

Aloha Friday

Friday, March 12, 2010

Aloha friends! So glad it's Friday and the weather has warmed up a bit. Ahhhh, spring is coming! That means maybe I can get outta these maternity jeans soon (I only have one pair that really fits...it's so hard to find them!) and put on some capris, shorts, a sundress...anything else! Not looking forward to the bathing suit though, sigh.

So, the burning question for the day? What are you most looking forward to this spring?
For me, aside from a wardrobe change, it's being able to pack a picnic and take the kids downtown by the water to walk, play and have lunch.

Thanks for stopping by and playing along. Visit An Island Life for more Aloha Friday Fun. Don't forget to enter my DENTASTIX giveaway while you're here. I'm giving away 5 Puppy Prize Packs for your four-legged friends!
