WW- Beach Fun and a Colorvale Template Giveway

Wednesday, August 21, 2013

Summer is coming to a close, but I am hoping we'll have nice weather for a while yet, so that I can continue shooting at the beach. I love shooting sessions on the beach and this summer I have had several. The wide open space, soft colors and fun opportunities for creative compositions are a great recipe for interesting portraits.
During a session last week, I was even lucky enough to stumble upon this fantastic sand castle someone had built and left along the shore. When I saw the summer and sand template on the Colorvale site, I knew it was a match made in Heaven. I added a portion of my image to the globe and this is the result.

The globe template is currently on sale for $7 in the Colorvale online store, but I have one to give away* to a lucky reader! The template works in Photoshop and Elements and a tutorial for use is listed on the site if you need help.
You can see more of my recent work on my photography site: Melissa Bliss Photography and my business Facebook page.

Greetings friends and Happy Thanksgiving! Today, like most of you, I'm reflecting on all the many blessings I have and spending time with family. I am so grateful for a healthy family, a loving supportive, husband and the many friends who encourage and inspire me. Including you!

In the spirit of the holiday, I'd like to offer a simple giveaway to thank you all for your friendship and support! I really enjoy the connections I have made throughout the blogging community and I appreciate each one of you! I don't have any grandiose gifts to shower upon you... I wish I did, but I do want to offer a simple gift card so that perhaps I can treat you to a lunch out with a friend, a spouse, a child or grandchild...anyone you'd like to reconnect with during this busy holiday season. :)

Entering is simple, just fill in the form below.

Before I go, I have a share a pic, of course. I am overwhelmed with gratitude for these crazy little people and that handsome guy in the middle. They light up my everyday and make my life whole. Even though photographing them all in one frame is like herding cats, I am thankful for the photo of them together and the moment captured in time.

PEDIGREE DENTASTIX Prize Pack Giveaway

Sunday, August 19, 2012

Because the physical health of a pet is closely tied to their oral health, PEDIGREE is hosting a giveaway here on my blog for my readers with waggy-tailed friends. In an effort to get the word out about the importance of proper dental care for our pets, they have also put together this awesome site with oral care tips and coupons for DENTASTIX Snack Foods.

Poor dental health can lead not only to bad breath and tooth loss, but also has been linked to more serious issues like heart, lung and kidney problems. However, according to a survey conducted by PEDIGREE DENTASTIX Treats, only 32% of people report taking their dog to the vet for an annual dental cleaning. That's concerning because four out of five dogs over the age of three have some level of gum disease.

Since doggie dentures aren't an option, taking a preventative approach to oral care for your pet is key. That includes an annual dental cleaning at the vet, plus daily tooth brushing and feeding of oral care treats like PEDIGREE DENTASTIX, which are clinically proven to reduce tartar build up by up to 80%.

I was sent a sampling of DENTASTIX Treats to try with our pooch Bella, and boy does she love them! And I love that they take care of her canines and freshen her breath. Trust me, that's important when you're staring down the barrel of a great dane!

If you'd like to win a PEDIGREE DENTASTIX prize pack, like the one show above, for your pooch just enter here!

Photoshop Workshop Giveaway with Mom Tried It

Wednesday, June 20, 2012

Hello my photography loving friends! I have treat for you today -a giveaway - yea!

Have you heard that Kim Young, at Mom Tried It, is hosting a series of online workshops for Photoshop and Elements? She has put together some fun classes that will help you take your editing skills to the next level and make your workflow faster and easier.  Sound awesome? I thought so. And the best part is that she's offering her workshops for the spectacular price of only $75.  That is hard to beat. But, I have the honor of giving away a seat to one lucky Serendipity is Sweet reader for free!

Here's the run down on her classes as described on her site:

"Have you ever spent hours on Photoshop or PSE (Photoshop Elements) trying different actions hoping for a specific result?  You run an action, then adjust levels hoping to tweak it how you want it to look and still it isn't quite what you were wanting.  It is like throwing darts blindfolded hoping to hit a bulls eye.

Well, I would like to suggest you spend some time with me.  :)  I am doing online workshops that will help you understand Photoshop (and Photoshop Elements) in simple terms.  That is how I have to learn it and process it, simply.

During the workshop you will see my screen as I go through editing steps.  You will get to watch everything step by step.  You will also hear me talk (oh poor you) as I explain things.  You can type in any questions you would like and I will answer them.  The workshop is guaranteed to be 2 hours.  It will likely go longer depending on questions asked, but I know not everyone has hours and hours of free time.

What is Covered

The idea behind this workshop is for you to learn the basics so you can edit your photo they way you want to.  No more crossing your fingers and hoping an action does it for you.
  • How to sharpen your images
  • How to use Dodge and Burn to make your photos pop
  • How to add custom contrast
  • How to brighten and adjust exposure
  • How to use layers to make your images the best they can be
  • How to convert to black and white
  • How to add textures and manipulate the effects
  • How to adjust skin tone
  • How to optimize for internet
  • Plus much more
In other words you are learning steps on how to accomplish a  specific task, but also how to put it all together into a workflow for editing images."

Now that you have the low down on these fantastic online workshops you can pop over to Kim's place to reserve your seat in her next class on July 14th. And be sure to enter here for a free seat!

Blue Bunny Review and Giveaway!

Thursday, July 14, 2011

Is it hot enough out there for ya? Yikes, the summer heat has set in. It's so hot that even my kids (who practically live outdoors) will only go out for 10-15 minutes at a time. It's that time of year when the pool and ocean have lost their cool and start to feel more like bath water. Summer swelter has set in!

The other day, in the midst of the summer heat, a super cool, dreamy treat showed up on my doorstep. A big beautiful frosty package of Blue Bunny ice cream treats!

Blue Bunny has a tasty new line of mini treats. They're adorable, snack-sized and super-yummy! I received a box each of the new Blue Bunny Mini Champ!® Mini Swirls Ice Cream Cones, Mini Variety Ice Cream Sandwiches and Champ!® Mini Swirl Birthday Party Ice Cream Cones.

We tasted them all...immediately of course, and I don't think we could pick a favorite. They were all so good. Did I mention how cute they are? The birthday cones tasted just like birthday cake and would be perfect for any party.

The kindly folks at Blue Bunny have offered a giveaway so that I can share the sweetness! One lucky winner will receive a coupon for a free box of Blue Bunny treats! I dare you to find a better way to cool off ;)

To enter and leave me a comment telling me which Blue Bunny treat you'd like to try.

Pet Armor Giveaway

Thursday, June 16, 2011

If you haven't heard, PetArmor™ is a new flea and tick medication that works like others on the market, but at a fraction of the cost. As a great dane owner, I'm no stranger to large pet bills...not to mention large food bills and large piles in my back yard, but I digress. The point is, who wouldn't love to save a buck or two when it comes to pet expenses? Yes, we love our four-legged furries as family, and they deserve the best care possible, but that doesn't mean it should cost an arm and a leg. Now, thanks to PetArmor™, we can protect our pets from those pesky parasites and save a pretty penny too. You'll find it at Walmart for $25-$35 for a 3-month supply.

So, what's the scoop on this new med and how does it compare to market leaders like Frontline?
From the company website:
"It's simple. PetArmor contains the same active ingredients and the same flea and tick
protection as Frontline. For years, Frontline was the only flea and tick medication of its kind on the market. Now PetArmor™ offers the same active ingredient (fipronil), in the same concentration as Frontline, so it's just as safe and effective against fleas and ticks. Fipronil is the number-one active ingredient recommended by veterinarians for flea and tick control. Also, PetArmor Plus contains S-methoprene, just like Frontline Plus, which prevents flea eggs from hatching and growing up, and then laying more eggs.

Why the same, for less?*
PetArmor is a generic version of Frontline with the same active ingredient—fipronil. The fipronil patent (U.S. Patent # 5,232,940) has expired, clearing the way for generic products to be available. We've made it up to 50% less expensive* and available in stores where you shop, because we'd like to help more pets stay flea and tick free.

PetArmor is all about providing greater access to affordable pet medications in support of better health for all pets. As an official flea and tick treatment of the ASPCA, PetArmor protection will be offered to dogs and cats in the ASPCA’s Adoption Center and clinic. Additionally, we are working with the ASPCA to launch the PetArmor Protection Pledge to create a community dedicated to better pet health. We encourage you to visit our Facebook page (www.facebook.com/PetArmor) to take the pledge. Each pledge taken triggers a $1 donation to the ASPCA, up to a maximum of $100,000, to help pets in need. We hope you’ll take the pledge and rally others to do the same."

I have been using PetArmor on our dane, Bella for a month now and it seems to be working well. We live in the mosquito and tick-ridden south and spend a lot of time outdoors. Bella has not been bothered by bites and I have not seen a single flea or tick on her. (I know they're out there, we pulled a tick off of my daughter about a month ago!) Of course, you should always consult your vet before using any medication for your pet.
Our Bella Girl

Great news for my pet-loving readers, PetArmor is offering a sweet gift pack giveaway!

The “Take a Hike” gift pack is valued at nearly $100, and includes:
Sling-style backpack
Aluminum sports water bottle
Sunscreen (Coppertone SPORT, SPF 50)
Travel-friendly pet water bowl
Custom-printed pet bandana (so they can hit the trail in style)
A waterproof digital camera (to capture the memories when hiking with your family)
A discount coupon for Pet Armor

Here's how to enter:
First entry, tell me what you love about your pet. That's it! Easy ;)

Support Autism iPad Challenge & Amazon Gift Card Giveaway

Hello Bloggy Friends!

I'll tell you right off the bat, that this post is a plug for my little 'sis. She's a hard-working, super-caring, smarty-pants school psychologist. She spends her days (and many nights) helping the kids who need help the most. Many of those kiddos have Autism and it's her job to help them succeed in school and in life.

Most of us know someone who struggles with, or is touched in some way by autism. Unfortunately, most school systems (and many parents) have limited funding and resources to make the most of today's technology and give these kids all of the benefits they deserve. Imagine the frustration of working your tail off day in and day out to help a struggling child, knowing there is a better way, but being unable to access the tools that you need.

That's where the Autism iPad Challenge comes in. Here's the scoop from Smarty-Pants herself:

iPad Challenge
Here’s a great opportunity to support the autism community and help me win an iPad to use with my students who have autism. The iPad is not only a fantastic instructional tool for kids who are nonverbal and/or have strengths in visual processing, it also will be invaluable in collecting and graphing data on my students’ academic and behavioral progress. I simply need to sell any combination of 60 of the items pictured below.
How to participate:
1. Place an order from the website (http://www.thepuzzlingpiece.com/products.html).
2. When you make your purchase you MUST put my first and last name (Heather Langknecht) in the section that says, “Challenger’s Name”, otherwise I won’t receive credit.
3. After you place your order, come back here and post a comment telling me what you ordered and if/how your life has been touched by someone with autism.
4. Once I cross-check your name with the orders you will be entered in a drawing for a $35 Amazon gift card (this could turn out to be a money maker for you!). I will announce the lucky winner on July 15.

The following are the only items from the site that count towards the challenge:

My personal favorite is the wine opener ;)  Please consider making a purchase for yourself or as a gift. And, even if you can't make a purchase, please share this link and spread the word!
Thank you for your support!

What to Expect The Second Year Q & A with Heidi Murkoff

Tuesday, May 3, 2011

I'd like to share an interview with Heidi Murkoff, author of the What to Expect series. Here is a recent Q&A regarding her latest book, What to Expect The Second Year:

Q: You say "terrible twos" is a terrible misnomer. Why?

A: First of all, the timing's off. So-called terrible twos behavior- those trademark tantrums, that negativity, that you-can't-make-me attitude that's typically associated with two-year-olds - usually kicks off (literally) soon after the first birthday, sometimes even sooner, and it can continue well past the third birthday.

But more importantly, the name's all wrong. Toddlers aren't terrible - they're terrific. Their behavior may be challenging at times, pretty hard to take on some days - but take a closer look, and you'll see that it's an essential part of their evolution as an individual....as an ever more fascinating, interesting, interested, complex, complicated, sometimes maddening, always adorable little person.

Q: So what causes these behaviors?

A: Two words: growing up! From those meltdowns on the frozen food aisle to that picky eating to those bedtime rebellions - those behaviors are your little one's way of letting you know: I am toddler, hear me roar. For the first time in my life, I'm not an extension of your arms. I'm my own little person, on my two little feet. I'm nobody's baby. Toddlerhood is, essentially, a battle for autonomy, a fight for freedom, a struggle to define a fledgling identity. It's the first time you see those kinds of behaviors - but it's definitely not the last. You'll get another peek somewhere around age 11 or 12 - there's a reason why toddler is called "the first adolescence".

Q: Who's the little girl on the cover?

A: That's an adorable 14-month old named Gigi, who perfectly personifies what I like to call "joie de toddler" - that toddler essence, that bubbly effervescence, that absolute, unequivocal unbridled, unabashed joy. It's that something-something, that je ne sais quoi you wish you could bottle, splash behind your ears, save forever. Toddlers are small, but their egos, their personalities, their range of emotions (whether it's giddy excitement that buzzes through the their whole bodies, or furious foot-stomping) - that's larger than life. Other ages have their charms - but toddlerhood is magical.

Q: What to Expect books are known for their month-by-month format. Why did you choose a topic-by-topic format for Second Year?

A: One of the words that I hope best describes What to Expect - at least it's one of the top priorities I strive for in everything What to Expect is: intuitive. What to Expect is designed to "get it" - to get you as a parent. To anticipate your questions and concerns and needs - and to offer up the answers and reassurance you're craving in the format that best fits the stage of parenting you're in. When you're expecting - month by month makes perfect sense. After all, who wants to focus on labor and delivery when you're still coping with 1st trimester quease? Same thing for the first year - a newborn comes with a whole different set of issues than a 7 or 8 or 10 month old. But in that second year, there's lots and lots of overlap. The behaviors may evolve - you'll go from primitive, almost laughable tantrums, for instance, to far more sophisticated levels of mommy and daddy manipulation - but they won't change from month to month. So it makes much more intuitive sense to divide the second year into topics instead. Feeding. Sleeping. Growth. Behaviors. Discipline. And to test out my intuition, I tapped into my moms at Whattoexpect.com - and sure enough, their intuition was on the same page. Topic-by-topic, quick to flip to, the tips you need when you need them.

Q: What are the topics parents most want to know about?

A: It doesn't take a rocket scientist, or even a parenting expert to figure out what parents most want to know about when they have a toddler in the house. Pretty much the same topics as when they have a baby in the house - only with variations on the theme. Growing - is my toddler to thin, too chubby, too big, too small? Development- when will he walk? Talk? Kick a ball? Eat with a spoon? Is she hitting all those milestones? And speaking of hitting, how about behavior? Why does he hit? Bite? Not share? Throw tantrums? Say no when she means yes? Feeding - why won't she eat her veggies? Why won't he eat anything that isn't beige? What if she won't drink milk? And of course, sleep - as in, how can my toddler get more...so I can get more? Why is bedtime always a battle? Why won't he break for a nap? And what about night walking?

You'll find the answers to these question and many more in Heidi's latest book: What to Expect The Second Year.

Be sure to enter my current giveaway for a copy of the book and a prize pack valued at over $123!

Win A Tangled Movie Poster Signed by Zachary Levi!

Friday, April 1, 2011

Do you have a Tangled fan at your house? I have a 5 year old who is just giddy over anything Tangled. She was dying for the movie to come out and has watched it several times since it debuted. She has a Tangled t-shirt, a Tangled doll, and a Tangled book. Just today she asked me for a Tangled costume for her upcoming birthday.

We have watched the movie as a family and I have to say it is a great flick. Well done with fantabulous animation, a funny storyline, interesting characters, and plenty of action. Even my 9 year old boy was glued to the screen, though he'd never admit to his friends that he liked it ;)

Just in case you haven't heard, here's more about the film from the production company:
"Tangled features Rapunzel (Mandy Moore), a young girl hidden away from the world by her overprotective mother, Gothel. Rapunzel dreams of discovering what the world holds, when suddenly Flynn Ryder (Zachary Levi), a caddish drifter stumbles into her life. They strike a deal and Flynn agrees to lead her through the forest and find the hidden strength she never knew."

I have great news for you Tangled fans! I have been offered an opportunity to host a giveaway for a Hand Signed Movie Poster!! Flynn Ryder himself, Mr. Zachary Levi, will personally hand sign a Tangled one sheet movie poster for one contest winner!

Here's how to enter:
Mandatory first entry: Check out the Tangled Widget above and tell me what is your (or your Tangled fan's) greatest talent.

Ultimate Blog Party 2011
If you are stopping in here from the UBP, welcome!!! Please leave a comment with your link so I can swing by your place for a visit ;)

Aloha Friday!

Hello bloggy friends! I hope you are having a lovely April first. Have you been tricked today?
I'm not big on April Fools' prankster so I don't have any tricks up my sleeve ;)

My Aloha Friday question today is: What is your vision for your blog? Where do you see your blog in 3 years? If you are not a blogger, what is one goal you hope to achieve in the next 3 years?

I have to say that I vacillate when it comes to blogging goals. That is bad for my blog, I know. It is important to have a vision and concrete goals and then break them down into doable tasks. My biggest obstacle is time. There are so many ideas I have, but very limited time to accomplish them. Just visiting my favorite bloggy friends can be out of reach some weeks. One thing I know I need to work on is organization. I need to revamp the way my blog is laid out so that it's more user-friendly and easier to digest. I also need to work on branding and hone my posting topics so that they are more direct and less random. And then I need to just get out there more. As long as I have homeschooled kids and a family who needs me, that will be a push/pull struggle. What about you? What are your goals?

Thank you so much for coming by today! I really appreciate your time and thoughts. Be sure to visit Kailani at An Island Life for more Aloha Friday fun. And Don't miss the Ultimate Blog Party blog hop at 5 Minutes for Mom.

Valentine's Day Wow Wow Wubbzy DVD Giveaway!

Tuesday, February 1, 2011

Valentine's Day is just around the corner and it's time to share some "Wub" with my readers!

The newly released “Wubbzy Be Mine” (SRP $12.98) is an irresistible compilation of three episodes featuring the series’ well-loved characters, Wubbzy, Widget, Walden and Daizy. In “Mr. Valentine,” Wuzzleburg’s trusty mailman falls ill on Valentine’s Day and Wubbzy steps in to deliver all the valentines, but he soon discovers there are none for him…. To Wubbzy’s surprise, his pals personally deliver his valentines, saving the best for last! In “Cupid’s Helper,” Cupid pays a visit to Wuzzleburg, but loses his prized bubble-blower. When Wubbzy finds it, he starts blowing bubbles bringing together some of Wuzzleburg’s oddest couples. And, in “My Speedy Valentine,” the third love-filled episode on the new release, Wubbzy and his pals try to find the fastest way ever to make their own valentines, but something keeps bugging Walden….

CSN Review

Saturday, January 8, 2011

I know I've said it before and I'll say it again. I love the CSN family of stores. There are just so many great deals on so many products! I always have great luck shopping with them and the service has been impeccable.

This time I was able to snag this great dog bed for Bella. When I pulled it from the box it was amazed by how big and fluffy it is. The stuffing is really full and doesn't seem to shift around like in some other beds. And I love that the cover is heavy duty, but still soft enough to be comfortable and it's washable. Bella loves her new "nest."

If you've never shopped at CSN I recommend you check them out before your next purchase. With over 200 stores and millions of items in stock, many with free shipping, you can always find a bargain there!

This post was written for CSN who provided a complimentary product in order to facilitate this review.

icaughtsanta.com Giveaway - 10 Winners!

Wednesday, December 8, 2010

Christmas morning is so exciting! Especially if you are a kid. Remember the giddiness of waking up and realizing the big day was finally here? Then racing to the tree to see what Santa had left behind? As parents we get such a thrill out of watching our children's faces light up with delight on Christmas morning as they find their special gifts and check to see if Santa has indeed eaten all of the cookies so carefully left for him the night before. Imagine their faces if Santa left behind not only cookie crumbs and a note, but a real photo of himself in their own living room?!

Now you can "catch Santa" in the act with just a few simple steps. All you have to do is take a digital photo of your living room (or wherever you want to catch Santa) then upload it to icaughtsanta.com and add Santa to your pic. It's so much fun, and way easier than pie (have you ever made a pie crust from scratch? Just sayin'). You can then print and/or share your photo online. And it'll only cost you $9.99. Come on you know their astonished faces will be priceless ;)

But wait! I have 10 gift codes to giveaway to my fabulous readers! Enter today to win one and you could create your one of a kind Christmas keepsake for free!

Here's how to enter:
