Wordless Wednesday

Wednesday, August 31, 2011

Last week we took a jaunt to Williamsburg. Whenever we go, we visit our favorite old tree.
The kids love to climb on it and we always take pictures of them there.
Of course, getting a shot without any monster faces is tough!

Monday Rewind Blog Hop

Tuesday, August 30, 2011

Sorry I have been MIA. Irene came through last Saturday and we have been without power ever since. Thankfully, we have a generator for the necessities, like Internet ;)  We have been pretty comfortable, aside from Sunday's high temps and no AC, and the cold showers. But, we have hot coffee in the mornings, a few fans and enough power to run the fridge and Internet. Things could be worse.

We were packed up and ready to evacuate on Thursday evening, but the predictions down-graded the storm for our area to Tropical Storm force winds, so we decided to stay. Saturday brought heavy rains and wind guts in the 50-60 MPH range, but noting too terrible. There are many limbs down, a few trees in the area and we saw some minor flooding, but all in all we are very grateful that Irene was easy on us. I remember the devastation from Isabel a few years back, which was much worse.

Unfortunately, I have been very busy juggling kids with cabin-fever, post-storm clean up, and the maintenance of everyday life with cords strung throughout the house and a fridge on the fritz. I have not managed many great shots with my camera in recent days. Still, I wanted to post an update and share a few pics of what we've been up to lately.

I'm joining up again with Chic Homeschool Mama's weekly rewind and sharing my shots from the week.

A Thousand Words Thursday #6 Monster Truck Edition

Thursday, August 25, 2011

Monster Truck Mania!
We took Mr. Man to see Digger's Dungeon for his 4th birthday. He was soooo excited! And it was so much fun to watch his giddiness. He got to ride in the back of a truck, which was awesome! It was hard to get good pics of that from my angle on the ground, so I took video instead. But, here are few pics from our trip to NC to explore the home of Grave Digger:

I'm also linking up with The Mom Jen for A Thousand Words Thursday. Come join the fun!

Wordless Wednesday - Er, I Mean Wordy Wednesady

Birthdays and Earthquakes and Hurricanes, oh my! Yipes, it has been busy around here lately. The weekend was full of party celebrations, as little bit turned 1, and then, just a couple of days later, monster man turned 4. There was cake, and more cake! Yesterday we headed to Grandy, NC to the home of The Grave Digger, so we could take monster man on a monster truck ride for his official bday. So. Much. Fun!

We were back not an hour, busy cleaning out the garage, setting up the new generator and getting ready for Hurricane Irene, when my Dad called and asked if we had felt the earthquake...wha??? I thought it was a lead in for a joke, lol. We are about 50 miles or so from the epicenter and we felt nothing. Apparently we are not as observant as folks in South Carolina or Vermont, because they felt it!

Well, with all of the hullabaloo, I have taken a ton of photos, but have been pressed for time to upload, edit and share them. I promise more in the coming days (that is if Irene doesn't knock our power out: fingers-crossed!). I'll share a few highlights from recent events, then I'm off to buy batteries and batten down the hatches.

Aloha Friday #106

Friday, August 19, 2011

Hellooooo my friends! It's Friday, hooray! I have a busy day of birthday prep ahead. We're celebrating two birthdays this weekend at our house. One turns 4 and one turns 1. I see lots of frosting in my future ;)

I recently discovered Thomas' Pretz-a-bagles. They are low-fat (120 cal, .5 gram of fat and 4 grams of protein), super yummy and can be used for dipping, for sandwiches or straight from the bag. My kids love them too. They make a great go-to snack and they'd be perfect for after-school. (No, this is not a sponsored post - just my take on a great product I think other moms would love.) Sorry, but I get excited about things that make my life easier...or more yummy. Speaking of yummy! I once cut them in chunks, dipped them in butter, smothered them in cinnamon sugar and baked them...WOWza! Mmmm, mmm, good. They're my new favorite thing!

Anyway, my question for the week is: What is your new favorite thing? Please share.

Thanks for stopping by today! Have a wonderful weekend!!
