Mom, Your Knees Are Old

Monday, July 7, 2008

So here I am, screaming toward my 35th birthday and hating every minute of it. I don't know why but 35 bothers me way more than 30 did. I was the same way at 25. It's the mid-decade crisis. I guess it's that I'm leaving my early thirties behind and will now be in my LATE thirties and thus, nearly 40. That's what bothers me. It's like the end of another era. Another ugly bump on my way over the hill.
To add insult to injury, not only have I gone up a size (obviously not getting back to my pre-3rd-baby size) but my three year old told me today, "Mom your knees are old." I mean, geez! I had noticed the crows feet starting to show, and I've been covering up the gray hair for years, but now my knees look old?!
Why do our bodies age so much faster then our brains? I don't feel 35. I can't even believe I've been alive for 35 years. I keep waiting for the day when I'll feel like a grown up. I am just starting to get used to being a married mom with 3 kids. I don't even know how that happened so quick. Time flies is an understatement.
Don't get me wrong. I wouldn't change it a bit. I love my life (most days), but foot loose and fancy free, I am not. Do I have to be 35 too? Ok, I'm whining. Sorry. I know there are much worse things in the world. Like turning 36. Guess I should count my blessings instead of my birthday candles.

ROFL. that was too funny. I wonder what she'll say about my knees that are a decade older and full of scars. My present to myself this week is a laser treatment on my face. it will get rid of the sun damage and apparently also take away some of the wrinkles. We can only hope.

See, you're getting it all out now, so by the time you turn 40, you'll be OK with it! Look out 45, though. If this is how 35 is for you, 45 is going to be rough!

You can't stop it, so I say enjoy it. I don't even think about age, there just numbers, what matters most is just being alive, and living. Like you said - there are other things to count than candles on your cake. Great Post! Thanks for joining the Post Party at MBC!

Yeah, my little dude pointed out a wrinkle the other day. I'm glad he has good eyesight and all but Geez!!

I believe you are as young as you feel. And it sounds like you feel pretty young to me. : )

My High School Senior English teacher Mrs. Gray told us the trick to staying young is to keep the Kid in you ALIVE! For some reason it sunk in. I'm 39 now and I'm constantly told that I look a lot younger. It is just a number, and when you consider how long people are living nowadays, 45 is probably the new middle age anyway.

Great post thanks for addin the link to the Post Party.
