Summertime Shooting

Thursday, June 26, 2014

It's summertime! That means lots of shooting on the beach for me. Here's a bit of what I've been up to the past two weeks. I have two more beach sessions this weekend. Hoping to be able to make it to the beach to relax one of these days. The kids are begging to go. We really need to make a trip before the jellies arrive!

Little Things and Not-So-Far-Away Friends

Thursday, June 19, 2014

Tuesday I had the pleasure of meeting a loyal blog follower and online friend. Kimberly Vensel contacted me several weeks ago about scheduling a family shoot during her vacation to Virginia Beach. As Kimberly is a talented photographer in her own right, I was honored that she choose me to photograph her family! I was also excited to have the opportunity to meet her in person after many months of online acquaintance.

I met Kimberly and her family at Sandbridge beach for an evening session on Tuesday. It was a great evening for a beach shoot, and it was such fun to get to know her awesome family. Thank you Kimberly for putting your trust in me! It was truly a pleasure to spend time with you and your crew, and I am so grateful for the opportunity to do so!!  I have only had time to edit a few images from our session, but here is a quick peek:

Little Things - Photographing from the Heart

Thursday, May 29, 2014

It isn't often these days that I get time to shoot just for me. When I was first learning photography, I immersed myself in all sorts of weekly creativity challenges, 365 projects, workshops and just everyday practice. It was fun to be creative, learn new techniques and shoot what I love. Nowadays, I am almost always shooting for clients, and to be honest, when I'm not shooting or editing client images, I rarely feel like picking up my camera. While I am still learning and growing - a ton - with every session - I sometimes miss just shooting for me, from the heart. So these few images I'm sharing today are the ones I've taken over the past week or so that were just for fun, just for me and just from my heart and soul. They may not suit everyone's style and that's okay by me. I love them anyway.

Little Things Thursday

Thursday, May 15, 2014

Sometimes the imperfect shots are my favorites.

I shot these the other day while playing with a new-to-me used Sigma 35 1.4. I kind of love it.

Little Things - And a Pop of Yellow

Thursday, April 24, 2014

Had a sweet little session with my girls yesterday to prepare for a Gymboree review. This so of this angelic creature was taken just moments before a meltdown. Fortunately, the meltdown was short-lived and blowing a few bubbles saved the day. ;)

 Shot with a D610 and 105 mm lens at f/2.8, ISO320, SS 1/800

Little Things Thursday - Glimpse of Spring

Thursday, April 3, 2014

Winter seems reluctant to relax it's grip on us. We've had a few gorgeous days interspersed with cold, wet, gray. Today started out sunny and bright, then slowly descended into a chilly, drab countenance. Still, the buds are beginning to appear and I'm hopeful spring will decide to stick around one of these days.
I whisked the girls up to the church park the other day to play and snap a few photos. It was a little too early in the day for soft light, but I couldn't resist shooting wide open in the little patch of purple weeds, despite the full sun. The girls really only had a few moments' patience with me, but I got a shot or two that were keepers. Here's one I captured of Little Miss just before a bumble bee frightened her away.

Little Things and Funny Faces

Thursday, March 13, 2014

Little Miss is quite the personality lately. In fact, she practically rules the roost.
Here's about 10 seconds of her shenanigans captured on my iPhone yesterday.
She is sweet, silly and sometimes waaaay too sassy!
