Photo Feedback - Week 12

Monday, April 30, 2012

I'm submitting another photo for Kim's weekly Photo Feedback. If you haven't participated in the past, you should really consider linking up. It is fun and easy, and oh so very helpful to have some honest feedback on your photography. It also really helps hone your eye to critique the images that others create. So, why not join in this friendly link up? Come on, stretch yourself a little. It won't hurt a bit ;)

My photo this week was actually taken in my cluttered garage. Little Miss loves practicing with the seatbelt buckles on her stroller and as she was playing I saw the light catch her eyes and I snapped away. Garages are great for "open shade" like that. It was mid-afternoon on a sunny day, but we were inside the garage facing the open door. I cropped in to minimize the background clutter and cloned out the rest, then added a vignette to bring more focus to her face. I shot this with my 50 mm at f/1.4 and wish I had closed down the aperture a bit for sharper focus on both of her eyes.
Here's my edit:

Project 366 Rewind - Week 17

Well, it was a busy week, and I took a ton of photos. Most of them, however, I can not share here. Because they include the other children involved in soccer teams and girl scouts with my own kids, I can't post them online. So, I'm posting a smattering of iPhone pics and the few shots I did take of my kids alone. Here's our recap from last week:

I captured Mr. Serious, who doesn't like to pose for pics.
We had some chilly winds blow through.
I took delight in our roses blooming again.
I found Little Miss on her tippy toes seeking a sip.
My big girl made clay pinch pots at Girl Scouts.

We drove to NC to visit Sarah and have a play date. I took the "scenic route" but was too concerned with getting lost to take any pictures until we got there. Then I just used my iPhone. It rained off and on, but that didn't stop the kids from having fun!

And my favorite photo from April is:

Simple Things Sunday - Daughters

Sunday, April 29, 2012

Boy have I been a slack blogger lately. It's not that I have been lazy, or off galavanting around on vacation, I promise. I have just been crazy busy. I have finally caught up on all of the Girl Scout and soccer photos that I needed to process so I can check that off my list.  And I even managed to clean out some of the kids' drawers and work my way down to one load of laundry.Yea! Now I just need to catch up on blog posts and visiting all you fabulous peeps and I'll be all good.

My simple thing for today is being thankful for daughters who are sweet and girly. I know the day is coming when she'll spend a lot more time with her friends than she will with me. But, I hope we will always maintain a close bond and that she will still want to do our nails together, to help me bake and go with me on shopping errands.  And that she'll feel comfortable enough to confide in me and lean on me when she needs to.

iPhoneography

Friday, April 27, 2012

Since this week was crazy busy and I have umpteen photos to process (I'm the volunteer photog for our soccer team and our GS troup) I thought today I'd be a slacker and just post some recent iPhone photos. Maybe I'll get caught up this weekend?? I hope ;)  Anyway, here are some pics from our recent outings.

Love my phone for sky pics and love my new Camera Awesome app from SmugMug. It has awesome filters and textures and lots of editing features many other camera apps don't have. It does take a little longer to load than say, instagr.am, but it entertains you with phrases like "mixing pirate booty" and "whisking monkey tails" while it processes. This first pics was taken with Camera Awesome.
My life as chauffeur: soccer, girl scouts, P.E., doctors appointments, the dentist, the grocery store, play dates, car inspection, birthday gift shopping...just a few of the things on our agenda this week.
A drawing my 6 year old made at P.E. Love.
At Girl Scouts this week she make pinch pots with clay.
I admired the flowers at the market, but didn't splurge on any. Love this color though!
 Snacking at soccer practice.
This was from a text my 10 year old sent his dad at work ha ha.
From a trip downtown.

Thursday we went out to visit Sarah, The Naptime Momtog and her awesome kids. I got lost on the way (I'm directionally challenged), so our visit was shorter than expected. But, we all had a great time! Thanks Sarah ;)

After P.E. this morning, we stopped in at our favorite coffee shop for chocolate milk with whip and iced mochas, yum!

And this afternoon, after another trip downtown for a well baby visit and shots (boo), we stopped for this family of geese .

That was our week in pics. I'm so glad to capture these little moments and to have my phone available when I can't lug my DSLR around. My favorite apps are instagr.am (follow me at melissabrich), Camera Awesome, and Magic Hour. I also sometimes use Pixelromatic, and Leme Leme. Lately I'm loving the photoaday challenges hosted by FatMumSlim. She has some great tips on iphoneography and products you can make with your Instagr.am pics.

Happy snapping!

Photo Feedback Week 11

Tuesday, April 24, 2012

Ah well, it has been a busy day and I still have about a thousand things on my "to do" list, but I didn't want to miss out on this week's Photo Feedback. I find it so helpful to have a critique of my work each week. This is shot I took on a sunny evening under a shaded tree. It was about 6:30 PM, and hour or so before sunset. This was taken with my D5000 and 50 mm f/1.4 lens set to f/3.2. It wasn't posed (can you even do that with toddlers? lol).  I just sat her on the bench and went work situating my reflector and she turned to watch her brothers and sisters and I quickly snapped the shot.

So there you have it. Now let loose and tell me what you'd do differently. And thank you for taking the time to leave a thoughtful comment! ;)
