Quotable Sunday

Sunday, July 5, 2009

Welcome, and I hope you all had a safe and fabulous 4th of July. Aside from a toddler terrified of fireworks, I'm happy to report that all festivities here went off without a hitch. You know it has been a good day when the kids pass out in the car on your 15 minute drive home.

This week's post is dedicated to smarts and brain parts. Enjoy!

Everyone is born with genius, but most people only keep it a few minutes.
Edgard Varese

Brain: an apparatus with which we think we think.
Ambrose Bierce, The Devil's Dictionary

Genius may have its limitations, but stupidity is not thus handicapped.
Elbert Hubbard

Mediocrity knows nothing higher than itself, but talent instantly recognizes genius.
Sir Arthur Conan Doyle (Sherlock Holmes) Valley of Fear, 1915

Genius is one percent inspiration, ninety-nine percent perspiration.
Thomas A. Edison, Harper's Monthly, 1932

The human brain starts working the moment you are born and never stops until you stand up to speak in public.
George Jessel

Aristotle was famous for knowing everything. He taught that the brain exists merely to cool the blood and is not involved in the process of thinking. This is true only of certain persons.
Will Cuppy

Men of genius do not excel in any profession because they labor in it, but they labor in it because they excel.
William Hazlitt
