Friday Photo Journal - May 29, 2014

Holy cow, where did May go?!  Anyone else feel the same way? I guess summer is here - unofficially, but we've had cooler than normal temps and morning 'til midnight workdays, so it doesn't really feel like summer vacation is near. Anyhow, here's a peek at our past week full of family walks, cinnamon toast, wedding shoots, a dip in the pool, Girl Scout bridging and homeschool PE:

I'd love to see your favorite photos from this week and hear what you've been up to!

Little Things - Photographing from the Heart

It isn't often these days that I get time to shoot just for me. When I was first learning photography, I immersed myself in all sorts of weekly creativity challenges, 365 projects, workshops and just everyday practice. It was fun to be creative, learn new techniques and shoot what I love. Nowadays, I am almost always shooting for clients, and to be honest, when I'm not shooting or editing client images, I rarely feel like picking up my camera. While I am still learning and growing - a ton - with every session - I sometimes miss just shooting for me, from the heart. So these few images I'm sharing today are the ones I've taken over the past week or so that were just for fun, just for me and just from my heart and soul. They may not suit everyone's style and that's okay by me. I love them anyway.

WW - Growing Up

Tuesday, May 27, 2014

I hope you all had a wonderful weekend and Memorial Day! I enjoyed shooting a beautiful military wedding on Saturday, recouped on Sunday and spent some time with family at the pool on Monday. It was a great weekend!
Today I'm sharing a shot of my big girl. She's turning nine in less than 2 weeks - hard to believe she's so grown up! Time goes by too quickly. I am so proud of this strong, sweet, beautiful young lady. She is a great sister and my biggest helper around the house. I love that she enjoys being creative and crafty and that she has become an avid reader.  She's also very helpful when it comes to modeling for my camera so I can practice new techniques. :)

Shot with a D800 and 105 mm 2.0 DC ISO 640 1/1000 at f 2.0 DC behind.

Friday Photo Journal - May 23, 2014

Thursday, May 22, 2014

Hi friends, it's been another busy week. My eyeballs are about to fall out from all of the editing I have been cranking out. 4 galleries this week. I have been working to clear my "to do" list before I shoot another wedding this Saturday.
We did manage to squeeze in a little family time last week. The kids enjoyed Nana's pool and we hit the art show last weekend. We enjoyed a couple family walks too - the kids love picking honeysuckle. And of course, we attended Homeschool PE. This week they play tug-o-war. :)
Here's a quick peek at our week.

This Week Through My Lens

Saturday, May 17, 2014

Hi friends! It has been a super busy week of shooting and editing. I thought I'd share a little of what I've been working on. When work gets busy, I have less time to edit personal photos and less to share on this little blog. But, I have been shooting a lot lately and wanted to post a bit of my work here so you can see what I've been up to.

I love shooting in different locations and working with different groups of people. It's always challenging to walk into a new situation and try to come up with something beautiful while managing different personalities, different lighting and weather, etc. This job definitely keeps me on my toes!

I mentioned that I shot a wedding last weekend. We also shot the bride's bridal session the Sunday before her wedding because there was a delay in getting her dress. So, I have been working on bridal portraits and wedding peeks all week. I also finished editing a recent maternity session and a senior session and sent those galleries off. Then, I shot two couples/engagement sessions and a big family group. In no particular order, here are some of the shots from those sessions:

I had filled up my 2T G drive and it was acting wonky, so I recently purchased a 4T Seagate EHD to handle the weddings I have on my calendar for the rest of the year. So far it's been fast, quiet and super easy to use! I had trouble with my G drive on a of couple occasions, and had to send it in for repair. I'm hoping this Seagate works out better. I also back up all of my client files to Zenfolio online, and have a 3rd hard drive for final edit back ups.

I'm always curious about what other photographers use in terms of file storage solutions. How do you back up your files for safe keeping?

Friday Photo Journal - May 16, 2014

Thursday, May 15, 2014

Happy Friday all! It has been a crazy busy, exhausting week! Fortunately, the wedding on Saturday went well, but I woke up on Sunday aching from the tips of my hair to my toenails.  I then had a session on Sunday, a session on Monday, and a session on Tuesday. By Wednesday, I was ready to drop. The rest of my week was spent homeschooling and editing and not much else.

So, I only have one photo to share today. I took this shot when I noticed the full moon on my way home from my last session of the week. I was too tired to park the car and get out, so I stopped at a light and shot this out of my car window. How's that for lazy?!

Little Things Thursday

Sometimes the imperfect shots are my favorites.

I shot these the other day while playing with a new-to-me used Sigma 35 1.4. I kind of love it.

Happy Friday friends! It has been an exciting week around here. I have been a busy bee getting ready for a big wedding this Saturday. We also endured a trip to the ER with my 6 year old, poor kid. He crashed his bike and tore a nail off, requiring 7 stitches. Fortunately, he's on the mend now.
Here's a peek at our past week:

WW - Beach Maternity Session Edits

Wednesday, May 7, 2014

My goodness it's been a crazy busy week. I'm trying to finish up all my editing before a 9 hour wedding Saturday. Last weekend I shot a maternity session, a senior session and last minute bridals for Saturday's bride. Lots to edit!  I thought I'd share a few from the maternity session.

It was a gorgeous evening and this couple was so sweet. They are married but have had to live in separate cities due to military assignments. She's army; he's navy.  They are expecting their first child at the end of July, but dad is deploying next week and won't be back for several months. They had no photos of their wedding, so these were their first portraits as a couple. Here are a few I've edited so far. We lucked out with a gorgeous sunset!

I can't wait to delivery this gallery. I sure hope they will be pleased!
Thanks for visiting. :)

Friday Photo Journal - May 2, 2014

Thursday, May 1, 2014

Yipes! I can hardly believe it's Friday already. This week just flew by! I worked, worked and then worked some more. I had 3 sessions last weekend including an extended 2 hour session with a rush editing job, so I've been plugging away at the 'puter.
The kids enjoyed PE, a Girl Scout field trip to the Coast Guard Base, and some warm weather - they were dying to get wet, so we broke out the sprinkler for some water play. All in all it was a good week - productive, if not exactly relaxing. How was your week?
